Jose Mourinho hailed David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world after Manchester United’s 3-1 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, December 3 (GMT +8).
De Gea produced an outstanding performance as he made a 14 record-equaling saves in Arsenal’s 15 target shots in the match.
“I told De Gea after the match, what I saw today was the best from a goalkeeper in the world. I loved the way my team played and fought. Arsenal played in some period amazing attacking football – creating difficulties for us. But I have to say that my players deserve all the great words. I don’t know so many in English but amazing, phenomenal, fantastic. They deserved three points.” Mourinho stated
Based on the records, only Tim Krul achieved it first for Newcastle United over Tottenham Hotspur in November 2013 and Vito Mannone equaled it for Sunderland at Chelsea in April 2014.
The most saves that the Spaniard had made in a Premier League were nine against Spurs at the 2011/12 season until United’s match to Arsenal.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also admitted that De Gea was “absolutely outstanding.”
Moving forward, De Gea has now a total of 53 saves for the season.
