12BET Cricket News: Chattogram Challengers vs Sylhet Thunder

The fresh start of the Bangladesh Premier League is about to start with its opening ceremony to be held on the 8th of December, and let the games run by December 11, 2019 until the end of January 17, 2020.  12BTi Sportsbook gives also your favorite cricket games so you better join and win those innings!

Chattagram Challengers is the new name rebranded from the previous group, Chittagong Vikings due to its exchange of franchise ownership and is set to have the opening game against Sylhet Thunder at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on the 11th.

Expectations arise for the Challengers for this coming tournament with West Indies’ Chris Gayle likely to play with them on the field with uncertainty if he gets to show up on the early matchups as he’s dealing with a hamstring injury, although a more targeted date he gets fully fit to play is after January 4.

Chattogram’s managing director KM Rifatuzzaman said, “He will need a bit of time to be completely fit. He was always going to play in the BPL and even though we will not have him for the entire campaign, he will be available in the latter part.”

Gayle’s agent, Rudradeep Banerjee confirmed that the player would be traveling to Bangladesh.

“In the MSL he picked up a niggle for which his doctor has advised him rest of at least two weeks, that kind of puts him out for December. He would be free for maybe a game or two, but then to fly into Dhaka and back to West Indies doesn’t make sense,” he added.

“If he would have been fit, he would have played the first leg, would have gone home on December 23 and come back again on January 4.”

The batsman had himself featured in every season of the Bangladesh Premier League and exceeded most of the tournament’s history, including a dashing inning of 146 against Dhaka Dynamites in the 2017 finals.

Gayle last played in an international match in August against India and was able to score 72 runs off 42 balls with a strike rate of 175.60. Being West Indies’ highest run-scorer in ODIs with 10,480 runs from 301 games, Gayle made his international ODI debut in 1999 against India in Toronto. He has 25 hundreds and 54 fifties in ODI cricket.

Since the Challengers will have Gayle to play for them, Sylhet Thunder has its own addition to the group from the West Indies as well with its bowler Sheldon Cottrell to play with them towards this league alongside with its newly appointed head coach Herschelle Gibbs for this coming season.

“Herschelle Gibbs is the head coach of Sylhet Thunder,” Director Tanjil Chowdhury said, “Imran Sarowar will be our team advisor and mentor.” He added.

Sylhet Thunder announced Imran was their head coach a few days back around the drafting of players yet suddenly plans have changed for the group.

Gibbs, who played 90 Tests, 224 ODIs and 23 T20Is, worked as a coach with Kuwait’s Spin Ghar Tigers and also with Rotterdam Rhinos back then from the Euro T20 Slam.

The seventh season for this Bangladesh Premier League is about to rock the stages having the Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Thunder face one another to fire up the first game for this league.
