IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma suffers injury

Ahead of the 2019 Indian Premier League match with Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has suffered an injury during practice at the Wankhede Stadium.

Sharma has been a top performer for the Indians and it’s going to be a major blow for the team if he can’t recover immediately as they hope to win their third consecutive IPL campaign.

The extent and details of the injury are still unknown yet, it is expected to be a hamstring problem.

Going back, the 31-year-old co-captain of the Indian national team in limited-overs formats also suffered a hamstring injury in the last ODI World Cup in 2015 and missed three games.

So far, the Mumbai skipper has played five games this season and scored 118 runs with a highest of 48 at an average of 23.60 in the new edition of IPL.

He is also five fours away from completing 400 boundaries in the tournament. In case he can achieve that feat, he will become the seventh batsman ever to do so.

The other cricketers who have done that milestone were Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, David Warner and Robin Uthappa.

In terms of having number of sixes, Rohit is currently fifth in the list with 186 maximums under his name.

Right now, it’s still unsure if he can participate in tonight’s game against KXIP. The fans are hoping that the injury isn’t serious, considering the countdown for the World Cup has already started.

The 2019 edition of cricket World Cup starts on 30 May in England and the Indian squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup will be announced on 15th of April.
